Food
UK customs strictly regulate the import of food items. Meat, fruits, vegetables, dairy products, potatoes, and shellfish are not allowed to be shipped. Other dry goods like ginseng, dried seafood, dried mushrooms, loose tea leaves, dried tangerine peel, and dried fruit peels are also not recommended for shipping to the UK. If these items are detained by customs for inspection, it can lead to additional inspection fees and significant port storage charges. Due to the long shipping duration and varying temperatures, food quality can be easily affected, and most shipping companies do not accept food shipments.
Medication
Non-prescription medications in reasonable quantities for personal use can be shipped. Prescription medications need to be declared when applying for the ToR1 form and can be shipped to the UK once approved by HMRC. Other controlled drugs cannot be shipped.
Household Tools
Normal handheld household tools like drills, electric screwdrivers, hammers, and wrenches can be shipped to the UK. These items need to be declared when applying for the ToR1 form. As long as they are in reasonable quantities and have been used for personal use for more than six months, there should be no issues shipping them to the UK.
Cosmetics, Skincare Products, and Nail Polish
General cosmetics, skincare products, and nail polish can be shipped to the UK in reasonable quantities for personal use. These items do not need to be declared on the ToR1 form.
Wooden Crafts, Decorations, and Furniture
Wooden furniture purchased from normal furniture can be shipped to UK. However, it’s important to check the condition of your wooden furniture for any signs of wormholes, cracks, or erosion. If customs find that the items are infested or damaged, you may incur additional inspection and port fees, and customs may even refuse entry of the goods.
*Raw wood items, including those made from rosewood, sandalwood, redwood, and chicken-wing wood (Jichimu), cannot be shipped to the UK!
